Ventilation Unit with heat recovery
Product development through to series production

Background
Climate change is forcing a paradigm shift in technical systems of buildings. Energy efficiency requirements for residential buildings are continuously increasing, both for new construction and for energy-efficient retrofits.
A manufacturer of ventilation solutions therefore planned to expand its portfolio of decentralized ventilation units with heat recovery. The product needed to be suitable for both new construction and renovations.
Challenge
In addition to high energy efficiency, the system had to be configurable for a wide variety of installation scenarios and, at the same time, cost effective to manufacture.
The customer had in-depth expertise in HVAC technology for residential buildings and industrial facilities, as well as many years of experience with simple room ventilators. However, the product development department lacked the necessary resources to develop a complex mass-produced product.
Our contribution
RAKKOON developed the system architecture and the overall device concept in close collaboration with the client and was responsible for the product design.
Key areas
-
Product design and device architecture
-
Condensation management and acoustic optimization
-
Energy efficiency optimized to Passive House standards
-
Design for manufacturing, assembly, and installation (DfM, DfA, DfI)
-
Verification of functionality through functional prototyping and prototype development
-
Industrial production of plastic parts with the client´s supplier

In addition to the development phase, RAKKOON supported the product through to series production and ultimately handed it over, along with all relevant documentation, to the customer, who took over production.
Result

The result is a powerful and reliable ventilation unit adaptable to various applications.
The development results were seamlessly integrated into the client's existing processes - from production to sales.
