Respiratory therapy device for home and hospital use
Concept development, simulation, and design of a medical device

CPAP machine

Background

Our client was looking for someone with experience in medical technology and commissioned us to develop a respiratory therapy device that can be used both at home and in hospitals. A key feature is that it does not rely on an external pressure supply (wall air).

Challenge

The device must operate at a noise level suitable for a bedroom while reliably delivering preheated and humidified air to the patient. Different functions are also required for home and hospital use.

Our contribution

RAKKOON developed a modular device concept with specific configurations for a wide variety of application scenarios.

RAKKOON developed the system architecture and the overall device concept.

Key areas

  • Feasibility study, simulation, and prototyping for turbine acoustics

  • Modular device concept for various application scenarios

  • Series development

  • Validation and evaluation using functional models and prototypes

  • Production rollout

Silencer flow simulation

Using flow simulation, a balanced compromise between pressure loss and noise attenuation was achieved. The turbine noise level was reduced to less than 30 dB(A).

The development process leading up to production was validated using functional models and prototypes.

Result

CPAP machine

Portable ventilator for use in home and hospital settings.

Thanks to optimized noise insulation, it can be used in close proximity to the patient.

A reliable supply of preheated and humidified breathing air, as well as customizable features depending on the application.
