Klimaschrank | Basisvariante
Kostenanalyse und Entwicklung einer kostenoptimierten Produktvariante

Background
Our client wanted to fill this gap with a cost-optimized basic version. At the same time, the internal development department was to be relieved of this task so that it could focus on the long-term product strategy.
Challenge
A cost-optimized version is more than just a stripped-down version: It must provide the features that the new customer segment actually needs and consistently eliminate everything that drives up costs without justifying them.
At the same time, the basic version must not undermine the brand image or quality expectations associated with the premium product.
Conflicts of interest arose between:
-
Features and Unit Costs
-
Reuse of proven components and consequent cost optimization
-
Brand loyalty, quality standards, and achieving the price target
-
faster market entry and utilization of in-house development capabilities
Our contribution
RAKKOON first analyzed the existing version in terms of features, costs, and opportunities for reuse.
Based on this, we developed the cost-optimized base model.
Key areas
-
Functional Analysis: Which functions are essential for the new customer segment, and which are dispensable?
-
Cost Analysis: Which components, processes, and design details drive unit costs?
-
Assessing Reusability: Where can proven assemblies and interfaces be reused, and where is it worth developing new ones?
-
Concept and design of the base model, with a clear distinction from the premium product
-
Production-friendly, cost-optimized design of the new parts
Result
Es entstand eine kostenoptimierte Basisvariante des Klimaschranks, mit der unser Auftraggeber ein preisbewussteres Kundensegment erschließen konnte ohne die Positionierung der Premium-Produktlinie zu verwässern.
Meanwhile, the internal development department remained free to focus on the long-term product strategy.
Close coordination between the analysis of the existing product line and new product development ensured that the base model meets the brand's quality expectations while still being cost-effective to manufacture within the target price segment.
